MetaMask: Solana, Snaps, Fees in Any Token & More!

MetaMask has faced criticism for lagging behind competitors such as Rabby. The latest update package could change that, as the team has been diligently working on improvements.
New users should start with our MetaMask guide, and then quickly grasp the essence of the new features.
Snaps – Third-Party Plugins
Snaps
are third-party developer plugins that install directly into the wallet, adding new functions or support for additional blockchains. Their number has exceeded 110, covering more than 50 networks, including Cosmos, Sui, and Near.
Available plugins include advanced transaction analytics, anti-phishing, notifications, and even chat.
All Snaps
can be found and installed via the MetaMask directory.
Native Solana Support
Solana is now supported at the wallet's core level, and no separate Snap
is required to work with this network. You can create or import Solana addresses, manage SPL tokens, and interact with Solana dApps directly from MetaMask.
The built-in bridge allows transferring assets between Ethereum and Solana without leaving the application.
Profile Sync Across Devices
The Profile Sync
feature allows you to synchronize all accounts derived from a single seed phrase across computers and browsers.
With this option, changing a wallet's name or any settings is instantly reflected everywhere. Sync can be enabled or disabled in the Security & privacy
section.
Managing Multiple Wallets in One Window
For those who want to separate high-risk operations from long-term holdings, it's now possible to manage multiple wallets within a single interface, without creating separate browser profiles.
You can import multiple recovery phrases into one MetaMask instance to keep DeFi, NFT, and long-term holdings separate.
Simply click Add account or hardware wallet
and select Secret Recovery Phrase
.
The wallets remain isolated but accessible from a single window.
Smart Transactions and MEV Protection
The Smart transactions
feature aims to reduce failed operations and improve the overall convenience of sending funds.
Before confirmation, each transaction is simulated within the wallet, providing more accurate gas estimation and built-in protection against common threats.
Until confirmation, the transaction remains private, protecting the user from MEV bots. The status can be tracked directly in MetaMask without switching to a third-party explorer.
Simply update the wallet, go to Settings
, select Advanced
, and activate the corresponding toggle.
MetaMask adopted this feature from its main competitor – the Rabby wallet
.
Batch Transactions and Flexible Fee Payment
Transactions have become simpler with support for the ERC-5792 standard for batch operations.
ERC-5792 allows combining approve
and swap
into a single transaction, reducing gas costs and the number of confirmations.
The MetaMask Gas Station
service immediately shows the final fee and allows paying it with any supported token, not just ETH.
You can swap 400 USDC for USDT and, without having Ether for a $10 fee, simply pay with a portion of the USDC, receiving 390 USDT.
This solves the classic problem of lacking the required token for gas and works on the Ethereum network for swap
, send
, and dApp transactions when smart transactions are enabled.
Debit Card and Future Plans
The company has also released a Mastercard debit card linked to the wallet.
In the near future, full Bitcoin support is planned, eliminating the need for wrapped tokens and additional wallets.
A multi-chain API is expected, allowing dApps to connect to multiple networks simultaneously, alongside new ERC standards developed by MetaMask with the community to unlock the potential of the recent Ethereum Pectra upgrade.
These standards will make the wallet more programmable and secure when granting permissions to dApps.
Although some features have already been seen in other wallets, MetaMask is quickly catching up to competitors, addressing long-standing shortcomings and adding nice touches.
