Charging the Tonkeeper Battery: The Secret to Efficiency or an Extra Waste?

The battery in the Tonkeeper wallet allows you to pay transaction fees without having to have Toncoin in your account. Instead, use your existing cryptocurrency (like Notcoin) to charge the battery, which is then used to cover fees.
The battery is used to perform any operations in the wallet: exchange, send or transfer NFTs.
Examples of costs:
- ~50 charges per exchange
- ~10 charges per token transfer
- ~4 charges per transfer NFT
Please note: the battery is not used for transfers of Toncoin itself. The battery is a separate account in Tonkeeper.
How to charge the battery
Charge the battery in two ways:
- Via tokens: USDT, DOGS, NOT, TON, CATI, CATS, tsTON, X, MAJOR, PX, BUILD, jUSDT, HMSTR.
- Use a bank card through the App Store/Google Play.
To charge, go to the menu Settings
→ Tonkeeper Battery
and select a replenishment method.
Here you will see several options for replenishment. Let's choose to top up with USDT - Recharge with USDT
.
The platform offers different charging levels with corresponding prices:
For example, 375 charges cost ~ 5.38 USDT, 225 charges - 3.36, and 125 charges - 2.01. The cost and quantity of charges varies and depends on the rates.
If these preset options do not suit you, enter the amount manually in the Other
field.
Consider the minimum amount for replenishment. The system may reject transactions below $3, so if an error occurs, make sure the amount you entered meets the minimum.
Once you select the amount, click Continue
and then confirm the transaction. If you see an error, try increasing the top-up amount to meet the system requirements.
When the transaction is successful, the wallet will display a Done
message, confirming that your battery is charged.
If you encounter an insufficient funds error despite having a sufficient wallet balance, this is most likely due to the fact that your battery is not yet charged.
Battery Gift
is an opportunity to give away battery charges. Give them to your friends by selecting Battery Gift
and entering their address.
Criticism and problems with the battery function
The "battery" function in Tonkeeper, designed for gas-free transactions, raises a number of complaints. This is not a new solution and similar functions are available in other wallets, for example, in Rabby wallet.
When replenishing the battery with other tokens, not only the tokens themselves are written off, but also part of the TON. If there are not enough charges, the write-off occurs in full, and the transaction is then cancelled due to insufficient funds.
In addition, when conducting a transaction, the exact number of charges to be written off is not indicated - it is only noted that the payment will be made by "battery".
As a result, significant write-offs are possible. Commissions, especially for exchanges, also remain high.
In addition, the network commission is sometimes cheaper than the battery, so check the rates for charging the battery and buying tokens before using this feature.
