Nansen ai: A Review of the crypto on-chain analytics service
If you're tired of looking at dry charts and want to follow in the footsteps of the best investors, then Nansen will help you better understand the wild west of the crypto market.
Nansen is an analytical platform for monitoring blockchain data. It helps you find promising cryptocurrencies (crypto gems) and track the actions of the most profitable market players in real-time.
Simply put, Nansen is your personal crypto-ChatGPT and a radar for whale trade spotting. The AI chat epidemic has reached all spheres, and crypto is no exception here.
Let's take a brief look at Nansen's analytics capabilities:
- Tracking Smart Money. Nansen labels wallets with a history of profitable trades. You can see what these investors are buying or selling right now.
- Finding Hidden Accumulation. Nansen helps you notice how large players (whales) are quietly accumulating a specific token BEFORE its price surges.
- Capital Flow Analysis. The service shows how money moves between exchanges and wallets. This helps understand the overall market sentiment.
- AI Assistant. It's like a crypto-ChatGPT – you can ask questions about tokens and instantly get analytical summaries.
For example, we asked in the AI chat: Which sectors dominate 'smart money' portfolios?
Answer:
"The following sectors dominate smart money portfolios:
• Leading positions in the DeFi segment are held by UNI ($159.6M), AAVE ($74.4M), PENDLE ($13.8M), and MORPHO ($11.1M) - total investment ~$259M.
• Assets representing significant institutional interest (real-world assets): ONDO ($95.8M), USTB ($23.3M), USCC ($18.4M) - total about $138M.
• Liquid investments/yield via STETH ($44.4M) and SYRUP ($19.4M)
• L1/L2 ecosystem tokens: MON ($70.8M), HYPE ($23.1M), ARB ($19.1M)
• Bitcoin ecosystem via TBTC ($39.1M)
Key takeaway: DeFi and RWAs have the greatest concentration in this sector, indicating smart money's focus on yield-generating infrastructure and tokenized real assets."
Let's see how to analyze on-chain crypto market data with a live example. Recall that on-chain analytics is the analysis of data obtained directly from the blockchain (transactions, smart contract activities).
How to Analyze Tokens?
We'll start the analysis from the main page, for this enable Token Screener.
Here you can quickly see the difference between token buys and sells on decentralized exchanges. As well as volumes and liquidity.
Here you can also quickly track the actions of smart wallets - those with a profitable track record over time. Their composition constantly changes: if a wallet starts behaving poorly and loses funds, it's removed from the Smart Money list.
By switching to Smart Money at the top right, you'll see traders' actions. Here you see Network, Token, 24h Change, Market Cap – but that's available on all price aggregators anyway.
But besides that, here you have:
Traders– the number of unique wallets trading the token.- Example: GOYIM - 47.68K traders with a price increase of 5423% - that's hype.
- Why? Distinguishes hype from manipulation. Few traders + growth = risk.
How does liquidity move price?
Liquidity– shows money in pools for instant buying/selling.- Example: BLOXX - liquidity $10.45K with volume $36.47K, meaning a $5K order will significantly move the price.
- Why? Low liquidity = high slippage risk.
Token outflows:
Outflows– shows how much Smart Money has withdrawn from the token.- Example: META - outflow $0, and Net Flows +$45.59K - meaning smart money is only buying, not selling.
- Why? Early exit signal if large players start selling.
And finally, crypto flows:
Net Flows- the balance of Smart Money inflow/outflow (Inflows−Outflows).- Example: GOYIM - Net Flows +$12.46K with Inflows $30.07K - meaning there is inflow of new smart money, but some are already taking profits.
- Why? Key signal: positive
Net Flowsmeans Smart Money is actively buying. Negative – bears are coming.
It's important to understand that the free version only provides analysis for the Solana network. The Pro version costs $49 per month. Everyone must decide for themselves if they need extended analytics.
Let's move on to wallet analysis.
How to Analyze Smart Wallets?
Let's focus separately on the Smart Money section.
Smart Money provides aggregated data on wallets of institutional and successful traders. You can analyze their profit, assets, and behavior over different periods.
In the Trades tab, you can see the current trades of these participants. If you click – they will be on the chart, helping to identify wallets with the highest efficiency.
There are also interesting filters here. For example, set a filter for market cap greater than 20M, and it will show you coins that were bought the most over the last 30 days. The leader is, for example, Hyperliquid, in second place – Solana, then Syrup, Morpho, and other tokens.
Sort data for 30 or 7 days to see the latest fund movements.
Here we can filter by sectors and coins (for example, only AI agents and AIM).
In this sector, there is no accumulation - only sales, mainly from GRIFFAIN. The Filter button offers options by price, liquidity, smart wallets, market cap, FDV, volumes, inflow/outflow.
And we also set filters from $100,000, and immediately get a list of coins that Smart Money wallets bought the most over the last 30 days.
How to Use Watchlists?
Separately on the platform, there are Watchlist and custom view buttons, where you can customize the screen as convenient, pre-inserting needed filters, and there are a huge number of them here across various categories: by sales, by holders, by buyers, by transactions, by outflow, inflow.
Accordingly, finding the wallets we need becomes much faster!
Profitable Wallets Dashboard
Below the screener - Nansen's dashboard with the most profitable Solana wallets (default is 7 days). Filters by categories and dates.
If you open them, the first wallet earned on FARTCOIN, the second - also on FARTCOIN, Popcat, Useless and 8% on BONK.
Next: go to the chart, analyze entry points. If suitable - add to Telegram bot alerts.
Token Netflow Metric
To the right of profitable wallets, we see the Token Netflow metric. This is the net flow of tokens between exchanges and wallets. In our case, over the last 24 hours, the largest coin flow was for CBBTC, LBTC, etc..
Even lower – stablecoin metrics.
Stablecoin Flows
At the very bottom of the Home tab page, we can notice the metric of stablecoin flows to and from the exchange.
Blue bars are inflows, indicating that stablecoins are being deposited for potential coin purchases. And green ones – outflows. They give us an understanding of capital withdrawals to off-chain wallets. The yellow line, depending on rise or fall, shows the balance of stablecoins on exchanges and how it changes.
AI Signals
Now let's go to the AI Signals tab. This is essentially Nansen's second on-chain scanner - a trader's radar. Here you can see a huge number of token inflows and outflows from CEX and DEX, also find accumulations from new wallets.
The system allows flexible setup of Telegram notifications by filters for networks, categories, wallets, NFTs, as well as fund flows.
Token God Mode
Now we want to move to the most powerful feature Nansen has, and that's Token God Mode. To switch to it, you need to click on any token, for example, let it be Virtual.
You'll see a huge number of metrics here. Here are fundamental data, exchange inflows/outflows (in 24h - 1.21K wallets for $1.8M), top PNL traders, funds, market makers (their performance and holdings), whales and new wallets.
There is also a metric and all wallets of top PNL traders for this coin, and you can see which funds are participants here, market makers, how they performed and which tokens they hold.
You can also track the actions of individual wallets by clicking on their chart. For example, market maker Wintermute: see entry points, buys and sells, transfers.
This allows analyzing strategies - for example, how some wallets buy at peaks, sell with profit, and accumulate tokens again.
Example with Moo Deng
Consider Token God Mode for the Moo Deng token. Statistics for 7 days: SmartMoney is at a loss, holder outflow ~50%, exchange inflows +2.6M across 184 wallets.
Top-77 PNL traders are at a loss of $1.5M, whales (who bought lower) are in profit, new wallets +$9M.
Active buyers/sellers are also visible, time filters (2-4h, 24h, 7 days), DEX trades, transfers, DCA orders.
Tokens and Trends Tab
The Tokens tab presents an extended screener with broader filtering options compared to the main page.
In the Trends by Nansen section, coin popularity over different periods is displayed. For example, the most activity was demonstrated by Solana, LaunchCoin, Candle, etc..
The popularity of tokens among different groups of Nansen users is also shown:
- Free users were most interested in Fartcoin and Virtual.
- Professionals (paid subscriptions) focused on LaunchCoin, Candle, TIBBIR.
- Pioneers also tracked LaunchCoin, as well as Fitcoin - a trending token that showed recent growth.
This section reflects the overall interest and sentiment among different segments of investors looking for, in particular, meme tokens.
How to Analyze Blockchains?
Go to the Blockchains tab. It shows address activity in different networks.
The undisputed leader in activity has long been Solana due to high meme trader activity and meme cycles, and this is confirmed by the number of transactions and fees.
Followed by Tron (where, however, the meme token sector is not active) and Ethereum, which also shows high fees.
When analyzing activity changes among key blockchains (Base, Solana, Ethereum, BNB Chain), it's clear that Solana shows the best results!
Now let's consider the drawbacks.
What are the Platform's Drawbacks?
A Nansen subscription costs $588 per year, and this is not accessible for average traders - only for institutions. All these features are available in free tools like Arkham, Dune, etc.
Another drawback is the complexity of canceling the subscription.
Furthermore, like any data-based platform, Nansen can suffer from delays in updating information or inaccuracies in wallet tracking, and this can lead to missed opportunities or erroneous decisions. Users should always double-check signals and not rely blindly on data, especially in the fast-changing crypto market.
Summary
Nansen AI is a premium blockchain analytics platform specializing in tracking smart money and analyzing capital movement in real-time. The project has attracted $88M from Andreessen Horowitz and Coinbase Ventures - making it one of the leading tools for professional on-chain analysts.
Nansen is not a bad tool for on-chain analysis, but the paid subscription spoils it all.
Whether to use Nansen or choose another crypto service from the rating - is, as always, up to you. Happy trading! Your editor - Maxim Anisimov for bytwork.com.
