Unstoppable Domains are built on the Crypto Name Service (CNS), a suite of Ethereum smart contracts that govern how blockchain domains are created and used.
Each CNS domain is issued as an ERC-721 token, also known as a non-fungible token (NFT).
NFTs are unique, indivisible tokens that are often used to represent unique digital items.
Using the ERC-721 standard allows developers to easily integrate Unstoppable Domains into other applications, allowing users to manage their crypto domains from compatible cryptocurrency wallets, exchanges, and marketplaces.
CNS consists of two smart contracts: Registry Contract and Resolver Contract.
The registry contract governs the creation of new crypto domains and subdomains, as well as domain ownership. There is no administrator in the registry contract, which means that no organization, including Unstoppable Domains, can manage or transfer your domains without your permission.
The Resolver contract is used to resolve domains or translate a human readable name to a cryptocurrency address, and to store domain records.
Domains can belong to both external addresses and smart contracts, which means blockchain domains can be managed with a multi-signature wallet or with domain management shared by a group of admins.
